For St. Francis of Assisi, it is the very place where God told him to “rebuild my church,” marking the beginning of the Franciscan movement. The term has profound spiritual, historical, and symbolic meaning within the Christian tradition. The Call to “Rebuild My Church”Around 1205 AD, while praying in the dilapidated San Damiano chapel, a young St. Francis heard the voice of Jesus speaking to him from the crucifix. Francis initially interpreted this as a literal command to physically repair the crumbling chapel building. He later understood the message as a spiritual calling to repair, renew, and revitalize the universal Catholic Church
