St. Peregrine is the patron saint of cancer patients, people suffering from AIDS, and those with other life-threatening or incurable illnesses.
He is the patron of these afflict due to his own life experiences:
His Own Illness: Born in Italy in 1260, Peregrine developed a cancerous growth on his leg that doctors deemed so severe they scheduled it for amputation.
The Miracle: According to tradition, the night before his surgery, he prayed deeply and fell into a vision where Christ stepped off the cross and touched his leg. When he woke up, he was completely healed.
His Legacy: After living another 20 years, he passed away in 1345 and was canonized as a saint in 1726. Because of his miraculous recovery, those facing similar battles frequently pray to him for healing and intercession
